ABOUT THE ISSUE
Each year, humans have been depleting the Earth natural resources faster than the Earth can replenish them. By destroying the Earth’s ecosystems through over mining and deforestation, humans could face numerous ecological challenges that could lead to an inhospitable climate in many parts of the world. The Bauhaus has designed various highly efficient and functional designs that could greatly decrease the amount of damage done to the Earth each year by human consumption. It is important to become engaged in this issue because of the environmental challenges already in effect in our world and non-engaged stakeholders can easily contribute to this effort by researching, developing, and implementing sustainable designs. Human consumption of the Earth’s natural resources has increased to a rate that is faster than the Earth’s rate of replenishment. A high rate of deforestation leads to desertification which creates an inhospitable environment. The Amazon rainforest is one of the most important sources of oxygen, nutrients, and water for all of South America. The South American economy relies on this rainforest because of its fertility and ability to provide food and other resources. Unfortunately, humans have begun using these precious resources at a rate that is far greater than the rate of replenishment of Amazonia. The depletion of natural raw materials can also lead to negative effects on the economy as well. Most of the world’s underdeveloped countries rely on exportation of raw materials as their main source of income. If these countries lose their natural resources due to overconsumption, these countries could lose their place in the global market. This could have negative effects on more developed countries as well because it may lead to a rise in prices of certain goods.
